Sculpt is an interior architectural studio and workshop based in Birmingham, the city of innovation. Founded in 2016, we offer an alternative to the typical processes found in modern design. Our approach is built around three key stages – reshape, redesign, refine.
Through these unique processes, much like an artist, we define the rough shape of the project and its requirements, before developing a robust design approach and finally refining the details.
Before putting pen to paper, we determine what you need and what you don’t. We define a brief, develop your concept and explore a creative approach to make that a reality.
Then comes the technical stuff. Before creating a masterplan for your project we’ll visualise your idea through schematic drawings and mixed media, and experiment with new materials and methods. Sculpt also seeks to uncover a site’s hidden heritage. This determines your planning and regulatory requirements, but it also guides our design process as we look for inspiration in a building’s original characteristics.
This is where sketches start to become reality, and along the way we’ll do all the legal legwork for you, from submitting planning and building control applications to coordinating with specialist third-party consultants. We’re there to make the complicated stuff simple.
Through our network of trusted contractors, our tendering advice offers confidence and peace of mind. We can guide you through the interview and selection process, help you appoint a chosen contractor, and assist with cost saving value engineering along the way, no matter how big or small your budget is.
We find inspiration in the everyday, using classic techniques and new technologies to create spaces perfectly suited to modern lifestyles.
At Sculpt, beauty is in the details and we believe that every single stitch and screw should be refined.
From beginning to end we’re on hand to make everything run smoothly. We’ll don our hard hats and work closely with our trusted black book of suppliers, fabricators and specialist craftspeople to design bespoke elements and those little extras that make a project complete
We can provide a build with its own personal Operation & Maintenance manual, which includes everything you need to keep your investment in peak condition. Going forward we will be on hand to help resolve any niggles in the first few weeks, we can even help you adapt your investment in the years ahead as the needs evolve.
We believe design can have a push effect, so we are guided by an environmentally responsible approach in everything we do. We favour smart and sustainable materials in all our builds while limiting the amount of impact our office and staff has on the planet. We use public transport for longer journeys and an electric car for shorter distances.
We are an equal opportunity company. This extends beyond our employment policy but also our decisions when appointing contractors, artists, craftspeople and consultants. We also offer pro-bono advice and discounted rates for registered charities, and we donate 1% of our revenue to St Anne’s Hostel here in Digbeth. For more information on their work for homeless men, please visit the St. Anne's Hostel website.
Our commitment to design and the region extends to our involvement in the Birmingham Design Festival – an annual celebration of our rich industry.
